Harris Becker has had a rich
and varied career as a guitarist and lutenist.
He has performed extensively
both as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the
United States, Europe, South
America, Mexico, and Canada. Mr. Becker
is director of
guitar studies at the C.W.
Post Campus of Long Island University and is on the music
faculty at Nassau Community
College. Mr. Becker is director of the Long Island Guitar
Festival, (www.liu.edu/gfest)
which he founded in 1993 and is also artistic director
of a summer music festival in
rural Quebec: “Songe d’été en Musique”
(www.midsummermusiquebec.com). Recordings include Catgut Flambo
with guitarist Pasquale
Bianculli and a solo recording Passing Through of
which one critic wrote:

JULIAN BREAM – LUTENIST & GUITARIST
“A GUITARIST OF MANY COLORS”

This lecture will feature the artistry of the great English guitarist
and lutenist, Julian Bream. We will explore his guitar playing
and look at the numerous compositions written for him. Bream
is widely cited as the per- son who rediscovered the Renaissance
lute repertoire and brought it to international prominence. We will
hear and discuss compositions including Benjamin Britten’s Nocturnal, the
Walton Bagatelles and the lute music of the Renaissance.

of the greatest lutenists of
the Renaissance. Dowland wrote
for a variety of mediums
including solo lute, madrigals and consort. In

discuss his musical diversity
